Laptop Keyboard replacement, like replacement of any device on a computer, can be necessary from time to time as a laptop ages. Westinghouse laptop keyboards can be replaced with relatively little headache so long as the screw locations that hold the keyboard in position are known, the keyboard cable connector can be properly disengaged, and a Phillips screwdriver is at the ready. As long as the screws are not lost following their removal, Westinghouse laptop repair can be quick and easy.

Power off your Westinghouse laptop computer. Ensure that all possible power sources are eliminated. Unplug the AC power adapter from the wall if it is plugged in. Also, remove the Westinghouse battery. This can be done by flipping the un-powered unit over and locating the battery outline on the top of the back of the device. Use the button mechanism to the side of the battery outline to disengage the battery.

Flip over the Westinghouse laptop and remove the two screws on the bottom center of the laptop. These will free up the keyboard. Use a Phillips screwdriver and set all these screws aside for later.

Check the back side of the Westinghouse laptop. Remove the screws from the spine of the Westinghouse laptop. These screws can be found on the back spine of the laptop, viewable when the laptop is in the closed position. Use the small Phillips screwdriver again to remove these screws.

Flip the laptop back over carefully. Use a thin, small object to flip the keyboard out slightly. Wedge the small object on the very edge of the keyboard and carefully wiggle it up and out. Then, grab the keyboard and raise it out of its resting place, but do not jerk it out.

Locate the keyboard connector and disengage it. After raising the keyboard, you will see a cable leading from the bottom of the keyboard to a connector on the bottom of the laptop below. To unlock and disengage the connector, take the black plastic piece of the connector and flip it upward from the flat, downward position it lies in. Then, remove the cable from the connector and pull the keyboard all the way out.

Take your replacement laptop keyboard and lead the keyboard cable down to the connector. Make the connection and then ensure that the connector is relocked. To do so, flip the black plastic piece back down into the flat position. Gently lay the keyboard back into a resting position within the laptop. Make sure it fits snug.

Replace the screws into the back spine of the laptop using your screwdriver.

Carefully close the laptop again and flip it back over. Replace the two screws into the back of the laptop. Your laptop keyboard should now be replaced and set firmly in place.
